that is another way to get your e-mail...
ask yout friends to use BC (Blind Copy) instead on CC (Clear Copy).
BC others can not see your e-mail adress!

Though Blind Copy does not display all recipients openly to view I believe you can still see all those it is sent to by checking in the properties of the message, now whether spammers have the software to scan through this information I don't know.

And once they have you it is a devil of a job to shake them off without going through the inconvenience of changing e-mail addresses.

definitely avoid chain letters, forwarded petitions, on-line petitions and the like.

Every chainmail stops dead at my end, because I hate the threats they usually contain. I have signed one online petition, but the spam I got was at another addy.
