Advice needed about posting Explorations
Willem Started conversation Jul 24, 2011
I used to explore the 'wilds' a lot, looking for interesting plants but often finding other nice things as well ... I haven't for a long time due to my father and mother's illnesses and deaths ... but I've started again. Yesterday I explored some hills, found some very nice things and took some (hopefully) nice photos. Now, I would like to post something about my experience ... but I don't know what would be best. I can do it my usual way, post it as a journal entry ... or perhaps several journal entries. If I post it as one entry it will be very long. Would it be better to post it as several entries? And the usual way I handled the pictures was to put links to Photobucket, where I've uploaded them. But of course the photos won't show in the entry itself.
OR ... could I send this to The Post? Would enough folks be interested in the plant life and landscapes of South Africa? As it is ... I don't know how many folks even read my journals. I really think there would or should be interest ... I think my photos are quite nice, and I can give some hopefully interesting information to accompany each photo as well. Would a four-part Post entry be OK? There are thirty two photos. Any advice?

Er, Willem, you KNOW what I'm going to say.
Give this wonderful stuff to . Puh-leeze.
We can get the photos up (although not 32 at once, at least, not until we, er, control the process). We can get you some readers.
And WE WANT TO READ AND SEE THIS!
If you can get us some copy and photos by Wednesday, I think we can get it up for the following Monday.

OK thanks Dmitri ... so how about doing it as a four-part series then ... so, 8 pictures per installment?

Right - I will send the first installment before Wednesday!

Thanks, Willem. Bel's kind of busy today, but she'll be thrilled when she finds out.
I love it when we have some colour and variety in . We have a wondrous planet. We need to share more about it.
I have been working and stuck behind this computer, as usual - though I did get to the pool.
So nature has to find me. Nature does. This morning I got up and went out to the back porch. A doe and her fawn went by, about six feet away.
Even the cat was quiet...

Wow, that's great about the doe and the fawn! I don't have large mammals that actually come where I live. There are small antelopes in a patch of 'veld' near my house but I haven't seen them in a long time. But we have the game reserve not far from here and there are some lovely animals ... big and small!

Oh, hello Websailor, thanks, I really hope you would enjoy it!

Ooh, do you have dik-diks? Those are heartbreakingly lovely.
The fawn was about the size of a medium dog. They seem quite unbothered by the whole apartment complex.

I *am* thrilled at the idea, Willem.
However, eight photos per article is a lot more than we're allowed.
I could, however, try to combine two photos containing four photos each if that would help?

Only two photos per article, Bel? That's a bit tight! Couldn't we make it four articles then?

Hi again. Dmitri, sadly, we do not have Dik-Diks in South Africa. The closest they get is Namibia ... *northern* Namibia (I've only been in the south). The only dwarf antelopes we have are Sunis, and Blue Duikers ... I have not yet seen either of these.
Bel and Lanzababy, you can see the photos and read about them on Facebook. It was easy for me to upload them, write descriptions and information in Afrikaans and English, and I've already had nice feedback as well - including a proposal for a book deal! I find it so, so frustrating that over here I am so 'handicapped' when it comes to pictures and photos!
