As some of you may know, I had three of my paintings approved to be exhibited at the South African Watercolours Society's Exhibition this June. My father also had three paintings there. Several other of our art class members also got paintings in.
So, this weekend, we had ourselves a little trip to Johannesburg to visit the exhibition. It was at a very grand sort of 'estate' where lots of other things were also going on. At any rate, the exhibition was in a couple of rooms. I was very proud of our members for the quality of their art - I think we made a good showing.
I was also very happy that my Baobab Painting was 'Highly Commended' - one of only four paintings there to win that distinction!
After looking at the exhibition, we had a nice lunch on the estate. Then we went on to visit the Pierneeff Exhibition in Pretoria. I will make that a separate entry.
Here are the pictures I took at the exhibition - please note, only three paintings are by me, and another three by my dad - all the other paintings are by other people and I put their names there, except for a few signatures I couldn't make out:

Geagte Willem en Pa,
My goodness those are simply magnificent water colours. The Baobab is quite extraordinary. It has a luminous ethereal quality about it that belies the strength and longeveity of the tree.
I really feel honoured to be your friend. apart from being a super person your gifts in the creative arts is quite formidable. as for the portrait of your Pa. It is quite extrordinary. to think it is done in water colours.
I believe that it is much more difficult to paint in watercolours, and I am truly "bouche-bee" at your mastery of this medium.
Your parents must be so proud of you. Did you spend the night in Johannesburg?
well done .
Much affection
Christiane

My goodness, there was some talent there Willem. I am so pleased that your talent was so well recognised among such work. I am sure it will boost your sales quite apart from the satisfaction it must give you.

Hello Moonraker, Christiane, and Websailor! How are you all?
Thanks for the compliments! I am starting to feel like a real artist. I've been asked to send a few more paintings to another exhibition that starts the 7th July!
Christiane, no, I didn't sleep in Johannesburg. We arranged for the class to travel together, we drove off here a bit after seven, then it was about a four-hour drive to the exhibition, then we spent a few hours there, then went off to Pretoria to view the Pierneef exhibition, and drove back at about half past three and were back in Pietersburg/Polokwane at about half past six.
Don't forget to look at my photos of the Pierneef exhibition! I'll be writing a posting about that now ...
All the best to all of you!

Willem you are a pro ,it is your life put your prices up , you don't have to sell everything the first week. you do need to save a bit each month even if it is on canvas.
I really do understand how you feel at the moment, just fantastic
