I don't know what a sentient being is. All I know is what is right.

If you can kill what you eat, then enjoy.

Don't kill anything unless it is food or a threat to your life (a lion, tiger etc.......not a spider!) If you live in England you will never have to kill anything at all. Your food is killed already and supermarket ready! smiley - biggrin
Hunting in this country is nasty. Check out hunting in the USA for real humane hunting. smiley - kiss

Cheers for the post... I don't know, though, I know some pretty nice hunters in this country - but some hunting over here is crazy. It seems to follow the line that the most efficient way of killing an animal is to get a bunch of dogs to rip it apart... Sure... In the 5th Cenutry, perhaps, when there weren't, you know, railways, busy roads etc and the woods were a lot bigger. I agree with you about spiders - all for the 'ethical' glass and postcard method. But not mosquitos. They don't deserve respect. smiley - biggrin Still, I try to be kind about it, kill 'em quick, then wash off the blood so that the others don't get ideas.

(I can't get the hang of these message centre postings... hope that this reaches you)

I've just realised (okay, ten months it took me, right on!) about the things I say about hunters, I ought to explain that. I've got a fair few aquaintances who hunt for meat - wild food fanatics, etc. They take part in deer culls as part of the woodland association and shoot pigeons, rabbits and ducks. I was talking to one of them and he only ever shoots drakes, and they only take the shot when they are certain of killing, rather than simply winging, the animal.

I'm not sure I could do this myself - why I'm mainly veggie - but methods of farming can be really cruel, and, even if they aren't are still quite bad for the environment due to the amount of water that needs to be used and the amount of carbon dioxide produced by farm animals therefore this does sometimes seem like a more humane/ green way of getting meat. I'm less sure about pheasent hunting because it all seems a little pointless to me. Plus, pheasants are damn stupid.
