To all of those with less than thirty days - Welcome.
This is '79 Monte Carlo, and I've got the ugliest car,
the meanest cat, and the prettiest wife on my block.
Looking forward to when you have the time.

Hi there, I am Cheryl, I am very new to h2g2, I am also new to the internet experience (late bloomer, I know). I guess I must get the book, just for reference, it's been so long since I have read it. I hope that I can find my way around the site. Can I get this site on my desktop, as an icon? My Researcher # is 142585. Thanx ME

Howdy, Gypsy, Researcher FLM, et al.
Gypsy - There isn't really a way - at least that I know of - to put a shortcut for the Guide on your Desktop. Depending on what kind of browser you are using, however, you can add it to your "Favorites" which will make it much easier to find. If you have any other questions, or just want to chat, feel free to drop by my page. (Click on my name above to do so.) Or, you can check out the ACEs' homepage at http://www.h2g2.com/A214796 . The ACEs are here to help out new members in any way we can, as I'm sure Crescent would back me up on. The most important thing about the Guide is that you enjoy yourself!
Also, just as a hint, you may want to put something on your page so that folks can post there. In a matter of days, you'll have people dropping in just to say "hi". The way to do this is to click the Edit Page option on the left hand side of your homepage. Then just type in what you feel like. Many people talk about themselves, what their interests are or what is happening in their lives. Regardless of what you type, type something, so that you can start getting message.

Hey there FLM. Hope you don't mind the nickname, but you see, I live in the Sikh capital of So Cal, and when my sikh friend first introduced himself to me, he said I would never remember his sikh name, so I could call him by his initals. I've never had much STM,
and I found addressing people by their first initial seems to work
(unless I don't know them very well, in which case I throw in a Mr., Mrs., ... Don"t want to sound TOO much like a spy movie, now do we?)
Thank you for the feedback. I was so desperate for e-mail I opened another e-mail account just so I could check and find something in it.
Of course, I had sent it, but what the hey.
My car is ugly. Chevrolet was tinkering with auto primer technonogy in 1979. Problem is, nothing would stick to it, not even the paint.
So I drive a car that looks like it's got leprosy. It may be a blessing in disguise however, since '79 Chevys are much sought after here in So Cal (cool, homey). Guys driving by have actually stopped and asked, almost pleded, for me to sell them my car. If it weren't for the fact that it's only got 60,000 miles and no problems, I would.
...and about my cat. #1 - he's not relly my cat. After trapping the little orange furball, eliminating the problem of my next door neighbor's tenents not getting any sleep, I brought him home to my wife, we named him buster, and I proceeded to sleep on the couch for the next 2 1/2 months because the little darling would attack my face in my sleep. At night we would sit in the living room and watch tv, and listen to the furniture being tossed about in the bedroom where he was kept (we didn't think the world nor buster were quite ready for each other yet). But he's mellowed out a lot. Now he only bites the mail-lady (sneak attack).
...and about my wife -- well, what can I say. I never used to think about hard it was to say words like "love" and all that mushy stuff,
but nor did think about how important it is to say them, even if it's just once in a while. I'm really only joking about her being the prettiest, because for me she is beyond compare.
Well, there I go again. I always remind myself of a quote -
"Brevity is the soul of lingerie."
ciao

And so "Ford" it is. My first car (speaking of/to cars) was a '59 Ford Falcon I inherited from my brother (he graduated to a Mustang). I still miss that "three on a tree". Am I dating myself? Good luck on your new site. I'm still thinking about something other than a number, but I kind of like the feeling that I'm in the movie THX-1138. Well, I'm not feeling too wild, wiley, overly sentimental, or incredibly interesting tonight, so I guess I'll have to look around tomorrow for something worthy of exchange. ciao.

Hello out there, Ford Lincoln Mercury of the 72476879. At this point I would like to correct a typo on a previous mesage - It was a 1963 Ford Falcon, not a 1959 (there was no 1959 Ford Falcon).
Result of search: David Lindly, El Rayo-X, Asylum Records, C-D
track 3 -- "Mercury Blues" (it doesn't sound blusey at all to this researcher). Check it out.

to make a shortcut on your desktop to the h2g2 website you can either go to "file"-"save as"-then of course save the website on your desktop. Or you can right-click and press add to favorites. After you have done this you can drag the icon from your favorites directory (in the start menu) onto your desktop. If I am wrong, or if i explained the wrong thing please let me know by posting a reply or something. 42
