The Cape Kidnappers Gannet Reserve, 21 kilometres south of Napier in New Zealand, is rare in twitching (bird watching) circles - not only is it the biggest mainland gannet colony in the world, it is easy to get to.

If a Scout would like to recommend this fascinating article then the rest of the world will be able to find out more about this unique world feature.

Sorry, I'm not a scout, just a peer - will I do, while you wait for a scout? smiley - smiley If so ...

I like the article. The landscape sounds rugged - got an impression of the kind of coast-line we have in the south-west of Britain. I think you've given a clearer idea of the place than the birds - but that's ok because the piece seems to be mainly about the place. I had expected it to be mainly about the gannets. That's my only criticism (only a little one) - the title leads you to believe you're about to find out about gannets but, other than saying this is a place where lots of gannets can be found, it doesn't tell you very much about the actual birds. I'd be interested to read more about the birds but I enjoyed reading about the place in any case.

Thanks for the kind words Salamander. I will add a bit more about the birds, although the whole point of the article is to bring attention to an unique walk.

Only one word in the title refers to gannets, the other three refer to the walk. I deliberatly phrased the title the way it is so if anyone interested in gannets used the h2g2 index (and other web-search engines) they would easily discover the only place in the world where there is an easily-accesible mainland colony. smiley - bigeyes

Conveniently, I AM a Scout.

I'll second Salamander by saying the title doesn't quite fit the content of the entry - I'd name it something like "The Cape Kidnappers Gannet Reserve". Otherwise, good, if brief, stuff!

Simulpost Mr T. As I explained to Salamander the point of the yarn is to make people aware of the walk.

As an aside, personally I don't believe any articles should start with the words "A" or "The". By using a meaningless initial word you eventually make the h2g2 index useless for people searching for articles about specific things. For example, if I was looking for the article about Cement I would look under C. Alas I wouldn't find anything because the article on Cement is titled The History of Cement. A better name would have been "Cement, The History". Just my opinion smiley - bigeyes

CDC, you are 100 per cent correct. Which Wellington are you talking about? If it's the one in NZ which lagoon are you talking about?
