Being an insomnia sufferer I thought it would be interesting to browse around H2G2 and see what the researchers had to see about the subject. You may be interested to know that I was by no means dissapointed by the wide variety of entries presented after a short search.
Hmmmm,
'The History of Insomnia' (http://www.h2g2.com/A294031) was very interesting to say the least, with a lot of information on how celebrities (including Charles Dickens, Benjamin Franklin and Winston Churchill) have coped with insomnia themselves. Some utilising some rather eccentric methods. 'Elico', the writer (http://www.h2g2.com/U105234) and the article's editor, 'Mr. Cynic' (http://www.h2g2.com/U56404) have both done a good job in bringing this article to the monitor.
But in my opinion the most important part of the latter article is the fact that it offers a link to a site/article which claims a cure to insomnia itself! Whether or not the remedy truly works is another matter. But the article, entitled 'Unfocussed Background Noise as an Insomnia Cure' (http://www.h2g2.com/A293942) is written by researcher 'Beeblefish' (http://www.h2g2.com/U81654) and edited by the aforementioned 'Mr. Cynic'.
The article goes along the premise that one can use background noise such as radio static or even computer hard-drives as cures for insomnia! Well worth a look.
