Another collection of my local knowledge for your perusal. As you can probably tell from the entry number, I've been working on this one on and off for quite some time.

Any comments?

Hey, Sue!

I think this one is great! Just a couple quick comments:

1) The last sentence in the pubs part is unfinished -- I still don't know where to get the best beer! smiley - smiley

2) Footnotes are supposed to be written as complete sentences.

Keep up the good work!

S'OK I suppose smiley - smiley, now my previous comments (in one of our journals) have been made, before that it was pants smiley - smileysmiley - smiley

Is the pub sentence unfinished because you are still researching it? How many pubs have you got left?

Don't quite know how but I'd managed to put an old unfinished version up - corrected now. Still doesn't tell you which is the best pub in town, but it does indirectly tell what *not* to drink! I think there's another couple of minor modifications in this version too.

Mikey, could you possibly give me an example of what you mean by the footnotes? Sorry but I've got my hungover head on this today and I'm not sure I quite follow.

Thanks

I *think* he means that footnotes should read as full sentences in their own right. Not sure about that, lets just check guideline..................nope nothing in http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/SubEditors-Style to say they must be sentences smiley - smiley

I'm not really here

Well done. I liked this entry, I'm fairly local to Waltham Abbey, and it does seem to be more used as a "shortcut" onto the M25 when there is trouble around. I'll hang around a bit more next time. smiley - smiley

WOAH!

My fault! This is ChawkE's thread. Almost didn't notice it.

My sincere apologies, and my mistake.

I take back my closing off the thread, and will let ChawkE do it.

I'm just pleased you all seemed to like it - and thanks for commenting Mina, it's nice to have a bit for feedback from someone that does know the place, if only a little.

Just one thing CH - an old lag? Hmmmmm.....

Just FYI, here is where they say that footnotes need to be full sentences:

mmmm, point taken, but I don't think that is an issue for researchers placing stuff in Peer Review, as the info researchers are given on their home page on the

"Click here if you want to know what sort of thing the Editors are looking for, "

Makes no mention and whilst links into the page you quote only has it done as a "The following entries might also be of interest:"

I think it may help if, with you sub-ed hat on (how do you keep a track of your hats?) that you ask for the page I refer to above, which has a lot about footnotes and is probably more read tham the page you quoted, to be updated to include the sentence thing smiley - smiley

Congratulations!

Thanks for the link Mikey. I think I get the drift now, so I'll give those footnotes a re-write as soon as I can.

Sue -- The footnotes are closer, but not quite there yet. The deal is that footnotes are supposed to be grammatically complete sentences that can stand on their own. For some examples, take a look at:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A533828

Here, the only time footnotes aren't complete sentences is when they're just references.

Hope this helps some.

Thanks Mikey - examples I can understand!smiley - winkeye I have another bash at them, but I doubt I'll get the chance to update the entry until I get back from holiday - so expect to see an update sometime round the 20th (hopefully).

Thanks for your help on this one - I know a sub-ed would put this right for me, but I'd much rather get as much right myself as I can.
