Thanks for the welcome Crystal Butterfly. Lovely choice of name by the way!
I didn't explore the site before I chose to register so I hardly know if I actually have any relevant contributions. However, as I exp;ained in my intoduction, I have a particular interest in this venture (or at least my perception of it). THHGTTG has had a profound effect on my life. For instance it was the first common inerest I discovered I had with my wife. So here I am, for better or worse. We shall see what transpires.

That sounds like a great story waiting to be told!
Although Guide Entries must not be written in the first person, you could still write the story, then put a link in the "Ask h2g2" section, ask if any other couples have found love the same way...
Just an idea!
My husband is not a sci-fi fan, he does not share my love of astronomy either, but then, you'd never catch me sitting by a riverbank all day, fishing!
Vive la difference!

If you needed to sum up H2G2 in a sentince would it be .... A forum for authors to have their work reviewed by peers.?
Or is this one of it's functions?
Could you please give your sentence?
Thanks, Joe.

"h2g2 is an online community with the opportunity to contribute to the Earth edition and make good friends"!
That's just ~my~ opinion, you understand!
I wrote a guide entry on guppies, just wrote about what I knew!
You don't *have* to write guide entries.
A lot of researchers don't...but that doesn't mean you can't read some of the other entries & learn from them!
Seven of Nine wrote one on Emmeline Pankhurst, and the suffragettes.
That was very interesting!
Sometimes just a "great entry" post, can be encouraging to someone who is desperate for feedback.

Truth be told Crystal, I'm not much of a talker, but I am interested in what others have to say (when they are actually saying something). My experience on the net has been voyeristic only and I'm unlikely to speak to someone I don't actually know. Also I usually don't generally expect others to want to listen to what I have to say (commentary on human nature). I will, however, admit that there is a warm feeling towards the few people that I have chatted with. Most of which have been on your site. I will look up your entry on guppies. The subject may be enlightening.
Thanks for now. Joe.

Thanks very much, Joe!
I feel honoured, that you like me!
I hope you enjoyed "Guppies".
I've just finished another one, and posted it at Peer Review.
It's on Mother Teresa, http://www.h2g2.com/A473500 I wish it was longer, but I couldn't find much about her.
That's one person whom I hope gets cannonized.
