The act itself suggests an ailing in ones mental health. People seen muttering to knowone but themselves are viewed in wider society as 'a little bit strange'.
An exageratted version of this comes with the use of mobile phones in public, and the frowning upon thereof by individuals surrounding the user. As the user is having a one sided conversation and the surrounding public are unable to eavesdrop on the full text.
So, therefore it is socially unacceptable to speak to yourself as those hearing you cannot structure the flow through hearing an open dialogue.
Can the same be said of forum/conversation posts? A public, one sided conversation with ones self, but in text.
