Ah!!! It's so lovely to meet other fellow procrastinator/Harry freaks!! Right now, I'm procrastinating on Chemistry, Algebra AND an History Essay. Does that put me up for an award??

Sounds pretty good for a start!
At the moment I'm on holidays, so there's not to much to procrastinate about - except sewing elastics and ribbons on my ballet shoes, having a shower, seeing if I actually do have any homework (I'm one and a half weeks into the holidays, and they're only two weeks, so I'm not doing too badly on that!) and getting off the computer.

So you're a Harry fan too? Whooppeeeeeee!

yup. I'm a Harry fan. although I'm sitting here, puzzling over the fact that you have a break from school.. is your spring break that late in the year?? Ours was late march... then again... I AM in Alaska... we're weird up here...

uh-huh, but I'm down south, so to speak, in other words Australia, so now it is nearing the end of Autumn, and it's Easter break.

Sheesh, must rush!

ya'll stink. See, when I went to a Lutheran elementary school, we had Easter breaks, but not anymore. Nooooooo... it's too close to breaking the separation of church and state laws... ::pouts::

I hate America, sometimes. But Alaska can be groovy.

Interesting distinction between Alaska and America!
How strange that you only have Easter break at Lutheran schools! smiley - smiley Here we have them at all schools. Much better that way! smiley - smiley Doesn't it stuff up your school year if some schools are having holidays and others not?

Because I go to a public school, we always finish the school year (late Jan, early Feb - mid December) later than private schools do. That's really annoying!

How long have you been around on h2g2? I haven't seen you before.

Well, Anchorage only has one school district, so the whole town has the same dates off, except for the private schools, who cater to their own schedules. We get out the early part of June, up here, but nowadays, most schools go from mid-late August to mid-late May. Up here it's early Sep through june, as I just mentioned. Yes, I'm being redundant. Ah well.

Alaska's so separated from the rest of the US that we barely consider our selves part of the union. It's rather freaky. They feel the rest of the US forgets about us, so we forget about them. It's a whole different culture up here.

Alaska sounds much nicer than America.

Today is the last day of the holidays smiley - blue, so I'm spending some time on h2g2...not enough though, just as long as I can get my mother to let me. She doesn't approve of me talking to complete strangers on the internet. Oh well.

Go to Greebo's party, I'm there.

Well, america and Alaska are essentially the same, except that Alaska costs so much more and the people love their wilderness and hunting. They're all rather conservative, which rather amazed me, I must say. They're all for environmentalism so long as they oil companies continue drilling and they don't have to put any effort into it. ::sigh:: Well, the Greens ARE gaining momentum here...

(off the subject of politics) What grade are you in, anyway?

I'm in grade eight, in Australia, but I'm not sure what that is in America. I guess that it is about grade eight as well. I am 13, does that help? How old are you, and what year are you in?

It's only the second day back at school today - yuck!

Got a thousand other conversations to get to, but don't feel neglected - I'll unsubscribe from some - later smiley - winkeye

That's ok!!! I napped through my entire day, so it's alright. Um... I'm 16, in year 10 (sophmore) and tired to DEATH of school. Gott sei Danke!! Eine Monte in das Jahre!!! Eine Monte!! And there was much rejoicing. ::yay:: You'll pardon me, I have an unhealthy obsession with Monty Python. I'm far too ready to visit San Antonio, and my studies are somewhat.... suffering? I guess that's about it. I'm so sick of school I want to SCREAM!! And it's snowing. SNOWING! On May Second!!! WHAT IS WRONG with this state???

Oh dear, you don't sound too happy! But help is near, for I love Monty Python too!

You're coming out of Spring aren't you? So I guess it is odd for it to be snowing. We're just beginning to freeze out butts off.

Yes, spring is *supposedly* upon us. And another month until summer. ARGH! Snow is lovely and all, but not after a month of lovely spring!!! ::sigh:: ah well.

It finally melted, and this time I hope for good. And summer break is nearly here!! Just another month! Exactly a month, at that!!! We get out June 6th.

Hey, I just thought of an odd question. Well, maybe not. What is your schoolyear like? Is it year-round, or is it based on summers off, winters on? Or something different? We Americans tend to be rather... full of ourselves. I had to do lots of studying on my own to find out about the European system of schooling.. (which I highly prefer, actually.)

Today was one of the most magical Autumn days I've ever met. Crisp air, gentle breeze, cloudless sky, glowing sun, crunchy leaves, hot chocolate...mmmmmmm.

I believe my school system is unique not only to Australia, but to my particular corner. I goes like this:

Preschool/creche [not compulsory] any age - 4/5

Kindergarten [first year of compulsory schooling] 5-6
Year 1 6-7
Year 2 7-8
Year 3 8-9 K - 6 is called Primary School
Year 4 9-10
Year 5 10-11
Year 6 11-12

Year 7 12-13
Year 8 13-14 This is all called High School
Year 9 14-15
Year 10 15-16

Year 11 16-17 This is College
Year 12 17-18

Then you can go to Uni, or TAFE, or something. It works very well.

Whoa... that is freaky... ours is similar up to the 6th grade. from there, it's Jr. High school (6, 7, & 8 or 7 & 8 <--- depends on the school district) and then High school (9, 10, 11, 12 and in a VERY few places 10, 11, and 12 with 9 in the Jr. High). College of course is optional and is the same thing as the university.

When do you start school, August, September, or at some other point? We usually start after Labour Day, which is the first Monday in September. But some districts start in late August. There is little actually conformity across the board in these states....

Ah well.

I'm currently procrastinating on a lovely 10-page research paper I need to have done this week. I've had the assignment for two months. Pretty good, don't ya think??

I'm on the phone at the moment, so I shouldn't be doing this, but I haven't forgotten you, I will reply properly...later.

When can we politely change our nicknames back? I'm sick of being called misery.

Not much resemblance really...
"Exuberance" really is a bit bubbly after a death. Maybe I'll be "not-quite-exuberant,-but-recovering" Personified. It's fairly accurate.

Post 19

that's great!! I think that would be quite appropriate, really.

Then again... exuberance CAN be considered a good thing, even after death. At least, I think so.

Makes everyone feel better.

True.

I'm worried. It's four weeks into the term and I haven't got any assignments! Mind you, I'm not complaing, but I guess this means I'm going to get them all at the end of term, which will be just smegging awful.

Eh well, this is supposed to be the night when I actually sleep, so good night.
