Mice - humane traps
Mouse Started conversation Jan 3, 2001
If you use humane traps, I've heard that you need to dump the creatures at least ONE MILE away from your home otherwise they will find their way back.

My dad used to dump them about half a mile away in a field, and eventually they didn't have any more, so hopefully that is not quite true. Or they got killed crossing the main road.

I'd just go for the ones that squish them. They look so much more convincing!

I know it sounds horrid but I'm sure it's very quick. Far better than being dumped a huge distance from your home and all the attendant stress of being carted around in a small container by a terrifyingly huge creature. I know what I'd choose if I were a mouse! (Well, maybe... may change my mind if I was actually faced with that dilemma but logic tells me that ain't gonna happen... )

I'm sure you're right when you put it like that, but I still couldn't kill the poor little things.

In my country we have food of mouse. We kill mouse with gun. Not big gun. Gun with air (in english - air pistol, no?).
All men carry gun and shoot at mouse. Some time take many shootings to kill mouse.
But mouse he has good flavour!
Thank Q!

Q,
Are you sure you mean mice??!! If so, the men in your country must be crack-shots to kill one without blasting it to smithereens.
And what do they taste of? Enquiring minds wanna know!

Hello bcg!
I am stupid, very stupid.
I mean cat. I check in book, and I forget which is cat and which is mouse.
I see tom and jerry on tv, yes, but I forget!
We eat cat, not mouse. Mouse has not a good taste. But cat, he likes mouse. Maybe cat is stupid like me!
Sorry! Q

No, you're not stupid. I think your English is very impressive. You've really improved since you first posted.
So you meant cat. What on earth does that taste like? And how do you cook it? Is it a traditional dish? It's rather an unusual dietry choice, if you don't mind me saying so.

A cat, he taste like dog. More soft the meat, but not if old cat.
We cook with barbeque. Some people they like to poach (I think this is right word, poach is how to cook egg, no?)
Some people they like to cook tail, but we have cat with no tail also. I think you say "manks" cat (word is not in dictionary, so I can not spell).
The old people they like to take the blood of cat and wipe on face, then cook. It brings luck! But young people, we think is not a good action.
Some people who work at the american satellite base, they cook cat from radio. It is not allowed! But they cook with radio from magnetron (1kW at 2.4GHz). I work there in summer to learn the electrical engineering. I see the cook the cat, but he is cold in the center. Not good for people!
Thank Q!

I used to have a cat that brought mice in and then let them go and lost interest in them... found that the steel trap works a treat though. Absolutely no point in releasing them as its very stressful for the mouse which will probably die anyway - kinder to either (a) kill outright or (b) share the house with them 'til they chew through a cable and burn it down. Mind you the cat might get it, but I doubt it.

Was your cat a female? If so, then she was trying to teach the 'giant kitten' how to hunt.
