A Conversation for GerManiaConnection - What's What / Part II
is warsaw in germany?
potocki Started conversation Mar 27, 2001
As honoured as I am to be listed in the GerMania connection (and rightly so, as I am from the Ruhrgebiet), I would nevertheless be happy if my articles about Warsaw would not be listed under "Places in Germany"
My friends in Poland could slightly misunderstand this connection. The times that Warsaw was "governed" by Germans were not happy times at all.
Could you do something about that?
Thanks!

Sorry - I included you because Kasia introduced you and automatically add all entries written by members of the GerManiaConnection to the list of entries. Of course, I thought twice about this, but you may also find Scandinavian places included and no one has complained about this.
I was assuming that anyone on H2G2 would know that Warsaw was in Poland!
BTW it is really nice to see you here! I had asked Kasia about you a couple of times.
Over the next week or so I shall be completely reviewing the Germania Section and would like to include a link to your entry, still, but I shall point out that it is not in Germany. Would that be a good solution?

Thanks very much for reviewing the Warsaw issue, really. Your proposal is fine with me!
And thanks also for your warm welcome. Looking into your h2g2-homepage it was nice to see that you are an expat in Germany as I am an expat in Poland. It looks like expats have a predisposition to write for h2g2 as they still have their discoverer's eyes open. At least I hope to contribute more to the guide about live here.

Yes - I particularly look forward to writing an entry on "England for Foreigners" to draw the attention of people in England to how it is seen by visitors.

...always when I hear something about "warschau", an Austrian Comedian comes in my mind, (Maxi Boehm - died in the eighties)who said :
" Warschau...fängt mit WEH!! an , hört mit AU!! auf, und dazwischen ist es auch nicht höflich..."
*lol*

Sorry about that...
I tried to post an old-austrian humorists (nice-) joke about the true meaning of (german word -->"warsaw" here...
I posted it in german, ´cause it would have lost the meaning, when I translated it in english... (it´s new for me, that the so called "house rules" forbit other languages...)
Give freedom of thougt in any language!!

Well, nero, unfortunately, the house rules do limit the use of languages.
We are bearing with them for the moment, after an initial outcry, because there really is nothing that can be done. There are several threads already discussing the subject. But the situation is basically this: ALL postings are read as soon as they are posted (don't ask me how on earth they manage that- all through the night and everything). English language postings can be passed (or removed) immediately because they are being read in England. German - or any other language - can NOT be judged as quickly as this, and, at the moment, there is no one translating for them. This would mean employing a full-time translator, and someone who has a really good command of colloquial German.
So we are leaving the extreme actions and just mumbling our protest from time to time.
To really let your hair hang down in German, there is still the e-group, which you can reach via the GerManiaConnection Start Here page,
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A478055
(it is another new rule that URL's and external links are not allowed in postings, but only in entries)
