You can call me TC Started conversation Nov 23, 2000
O God - now I've promised someone I'll write an entry on all those awful usages the Germans have for English words which, when an English person hears them , they would have no idea what the German person is talking about.
anyone know any more?
I used to have a long list in my head, but never wrote it down.......

Hi!
You can find one in my entry about Karlsruhe: Baden Airpark! Any chances, that a native english speaking would recognize this as another word for airport?

Probably not - it sounds like an aeroplane (=war) museum.

thinking about it, the 'Handy' thing is the only one, but perhaps I'm going to find some more.

Not intentionally, I promise! Quit that habit some 20 years ago because it didn't get me anywhere. It just so happens
PS: I'm leaving now, and this was meant to be the last posting for today *before* I opened this link!

Here are some of my favorites I can just think of (And see it, that they are Engländers favorites too. We do not disagree very much on this)
Oh, I think the problem is the slight difference in usage. The kind of inside meaning of the terms. Like my all time favorite: involviert sein. It is not quite the same as being involved, I guess. It´s got a more positive conotation.
Well here is:
"handy". as in "mobile phone"
"Checken" as in "grasp"
"Trip" as in journey
"uploaden",
Oh. And now I start faltering too. That isn´t that easy deliberatly finding wrong translated terms. I´ll ask my dad. He´s got a good colection of these things, as he does this professionaly

B: so that was you following me around 20 years ago.
E: Don't worry - I nearly filled a page at breakfast. Can't find it now, of course. That's the problem with paper.
Key: Complain about this post
