h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

When strolling round San Francisco, especially Fisherman's Wharf where all the tourists are, you can see and hear a few buskers.

There are also entertainers who make animals and flowers from balloons, and people selling home made goods, as well as those giving away Christian pamphlets.

Quite common were the one-instrument buskers playing to karaoke machines - a drummer with his full kit taking up quite a large portion of the pavement, but playing really enthusiastically, was most entertaining. Later we saw a guitarist playing along to a karaoke accompaniement. I've forgotten what he was playing. It was probably "Parisienne Walkways". (I know how to decline Parisien - but that is really what the song is called)

There was another percussionist who let passing children play a little on the bongos and he would riff to match whatever they played, much to their delight.

A couple were Jamaican-looking characters, playing the steel drums and singing along to their backing tracks.

But - a shaven-headed (or bald?) young black guy playing the steel drums and singing
