I looked up the year 1595 in Wikip.. you know. It's the number of a raffle ticket I have for a local Advent Calendar - numbers are drawn every day during December (I'l let you know if I win anything) I'm funny like that - I can remember dates in history quite well and to associate something with a Battle of Wherever... will then remind me of the number, because I remember the date of the battle.
The English-language page didn't give me anything memorable for the year 1595. This was odd, because that was the period I did for 'O' level history, and it should have thrown up something familiar. So I checked out the German page for that year, where I was reminded of an English defeat. Funny that the English Wiki page didn't mention it!
No prizes to any Irish readers for guessing that it was the Battle of Clontibret. To give Wiki their due - there is quite a substantial entry on the Battle to be found in it - but it is conspicuously absent in the "Year 1595" entry.
