... I watched a complete football match. The European final between England and Germany. (Guess what the other football match I watched was)
Anyway, although England lost 6:2, it was an enjoyable match and everyone this end (in Germany) agreed that England played well and were a worthy opponent, especially as they didn't even expect to get as far as the final.

It was a great surprise to me when I found I had a football-playing son. And now a Gaelic-football (and hurling) -playing grandson.

None of my boys are the least bit interested in football. It must be the German school system. They only play football at school for a few weeks in their entire career, unlike in England where they play every week, and then have another sport/gym session for everything else. Well, that's what it was like in my day, anyway. On the other hand, the girls did't get to play football at all in my day, so I hope that's changed at least.
My husband, on the other hand, is an avid football follower, although he hasn't played since university.

For sport the german school system is a complete washout. You have to join a club - which is why, I suppose, that when they are good they are fantastic. But you never get to have a go at lots of things, so if you haven't picked, say Handball, early enough - it's too late.
Although it was obvious that the Germans would win, I thought the English ladies did terribly well. And am very at the lack of coverage in the English media. (but then, given what happened to the - World Champion - Ladies Cricket team, not really surprised)

I always admired the way American kids were really good at catching and throwing, though. Give a German kid a ball and he doesn't know what to do with it.
