Time back way back before the Bad Time I took a physical Anthro class. We never did invent the chess like board game using hand and foot bones as pieces. We were going to use left bones for one player and right bones for the other; the pisiforms would have been usable by either player.

My most vivid memory of my last physical anthro class was our up-close-and-personal experience with the lady gorilla (forgive the anthropomorphism) at the LA Zoo (yes, Evelyn...recent escapee). At that time she was more interested in flinging her hand-held feces at students (non-majors, of course) who were trying desperately to get her attention than playing to the paparazzi. That day went somthing like this: Observe gorilla...scribble...scribble...observe loud idiots...scribble...scribble...prepare camera...DUCK!...snap pictures...run like crazy.

I have a memory from a test in that class. It was a bone identification test. We were given a bunch of bones which we passed around, one minute or whatever per bone. We were to identify the bones as to the type of bone, i.e., right femur, left foot navicular, whatever, and, where possible, age and sex. We had one bone that I identified as a left calcaneus from a young teenager fairly quickly and was turning it over in my hands when I uttered a short chortle. The professor asked me what was so funny and I explained that I would tell him when the test was over. I was tempted to add to my answer the notation "probably Pima Indian." On the bone was clearly written in good old fashioned museum ink, "L CALC PIMA"
