Had the delight of travelling to London over the weekend. The journey down (from Wakefield) was very pleasant, a little slower than usual (3 Hours) but the journey back was horrendous.
Starting at Kings Cross (a lovely place!) due to go at 1803 the trains hasn't even turned up yet. Eventually at 1840 I had to get on a train for Edinburgh (Isn't that Scotland) and change at Stevenage for a Leeds connection.
Sat in the train for 1 1/2 hours before it moved during which time more refugees arrived eventually crowding out the first class carriage. Heaven knows what the rest of the train was like. Lucky I had a seat. Started moving and then we hear that instead of changing at Stevenage we change at Doncaster (South Yorkshire) and a little closer to home than Stevenage (somewhere down south I believe).
There was a match on in London that day (Chelsea and Newcastle maybe) and quite a lot of the passengers had cans and bottles with them, so much so that the Police had to get on at Peterborough to deal with a number of rowdy passengers.
Didn't arrive at Doncaster until 2320, ane finally got back to Wakefield at 0020.
At least I got home. 6 1/2 hours for a 2 hour journey.
