And then I get this idea that if they come up with too clever ideas then there must be something wrong with the beer. I mean, good product sells itself.

Sure, but only once it is known. An unknown product needs some sort of advertising.

Not here, really. We have less than 10 breweries and most of them can't afford fancy campaignes anyway. It's 2 largest ones who compete each other and dream up all those extras. At the same time people always keep eyes open on their new production.

I was generally speaking, not just about beer.
I hardly ever watch ads, so I never know what's new on the market anyway.

I guess the worst competition is among all those cleaning things - soaps, washing powders etc. But they also seem to lack brilliant ideas. The good news is that then they just have to beat each other with prices.
