Careers in Hell (or not)

Let me give you the benefit of my experience... If a job promises you something - quick advance, interesting work, big learning op - and doesn't deliver, it will not ever deliver on anything else. Ultimately you will be at a dead end with too much to lose to leave, or to leave easily. Get out ASAP. Two, if you dread going to your job, forget the money, advantages (easy hours, close to home, can't lose it because of civil service law, etc., 4 day off periods) and get the first other thing you find - for one thing to show yourself that you can live on less, or drive further or hold a less secure job or whatever, before you really brainwash yourself into a miserable life, thinking you couldn't STAND anything else. Set a limit on how long you will wait for a job to pay off - right now! If you do not LOVE something and do not find your job enhances your life - as your friend here seems to find his work with the handicapped does for him - then find a job that impinges on your enjoyment of life the least, by either requiring the least commitment of time, or worry; or with the hours that let you have a social life, or great travel or whatever. I am not one of the fortunate who has a great love for my line of work (data processing), or can think of any other line that would make me thrilled to go each day, so I have found ones that allowed me to live in exotic climes, or had no overtime or were close to where I wanted to be and which let me forget them as I walked out the door. NO job is worth suffering for. Just thought I'd put in my 2 cents worth. Best of luck!
