Yesterday was my day off, so I did lots.
Got up, had breakfast, then drove daughter El and her cello to the tram station. She is capable of carrying the cello, but it turns the normal 20-minute walk into a 30-minute workout.
Cut my hair and beard and showered.
Fed the guinea pigs, fish and tortoise.
Tended my crops in Farmville2.
Attempted to ring two different art colleges. Daughter Iz has applied to both to do a degree course in September when she leaves school. One college is evaluating her portfolio at the moment, and it can be collected from then any time after 9 next Tuesday. The other needs to take in her portfolio anytime between 9 and 9:30 on Tuesday. The two colleges are about 45 minutes' drive apart. Problem. Eventually after leaving voicemails and e-mails, got it sorted.
My brother-in-law is getting a huge extension built on his house. As part of this, he had a very nice maple floor in one of his rooms ripped up and dumped. I collected as much of this wood as I could last weekend, and spent a few hours yesterday removing all the nails from it to make it safe, then chopping it into short pieces which can go into our wood-burning stove.
Filled the bird feeders - we have a regular group of siskins and goldfinches as well as assorted chaffinches, blackcaps, bluetits, robins and the occasional sparrow, redpoll and coaltit. Need to buy more birdseed.
Iz has a half day from school on Wednesdays, so we went out for lunch, to a sandwich bar nearby - they do a delicious 'chicken whoopie' and a very good coffee. Did a 20-minute run through the supermarket on the way back.
Rang doctor for results of the x-rays on my shoulders. The receptionist said the results show nothing wrong, so I'll have to meet the doctor again to discuss treatment on my bad shoulder.
Checked the alignment on the headlights of my car. I changed the bulb at the weekend, and thought that they looked a bit crooked, but they were in fact OK.
Cooked dinner - preprepared fish fillets in batter, which I baked; roast potatoes with paprika; carrots. As always, all the vegetables were organic.
Enjoyed a glass of wine at the end of a productive day.

I've had to sit down and rest after reading that!
Can't you be slightly less productive sometimes - you're wearing me out.

The thing is with Gnomon, nothing ever goes wrong when he puts his hands to something.
Either
- he plans well
- he's careful when doing things
- he's just lucky.
Actually, it's probably all three.
I am useless at guaging how long something will take - and it usually goes awry anyway.

Mostly 2 and 3. I don't actually plan well. I leave that to Mrs G, who is the world's greatest planner.
