h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I've been too busy over the last week to write up anything about my trip to Lanzarote, between work hacker attack scares, floods, my trip to Wexford to see the opera and the Halloween Bank Holiday.

I'm putting up the best of my photos of Lanzarote on flickr as I speak, and you should all be able to see them. It's very slow at the moment, so I've only about half of them up, but they should appear over the next few days, and I'll get around to putting titles on them.

I didn't know you had a bank holiday for Halloween, cool. We have one today.

Well, our bank holiday is always the last Monday in October, so it is only occasionally that it coincides with Halloween.

Some great photographs, Gnomon! Looks like you went just about everywhere. Where were you based?

We were in Playa Blanca, at the south end of the island.

We stayed at Costa Calero a couple of years ago, a bit closer to Lanzababy's home. Did you meet her there?

One of the highlights of the trip was a coach tour through the Timafaya National Park - which I see you visited too. I was so impressed with the coach driver's skills that I tipped him (most unlike me).

The picture of the big submarine was taken in Puerto Calero.

We parked our car there, walked along the coastal path to Puerto del Carmen, Lanzababy's home town, and met her there. Then we got the boat back - that's how I have a picture of her standing on the bank. She's not actually waving in the picture, though. And she wasn't crying when we left, either.

I was putting on a brave face!

I love the photos too, it makes the place look like a real holiday destination. I tend to think of it as a dusty island and hardly get a chance to go to the tourist places.

It must have felt good to spend a few days in T-shirts... before the long winter begins.
