Gnomon - time to move on Started conversation Aug 10, 2010
In my week away on holidays, I managed to get time to read a few books:
Thank You, Jeeves - PG Wodehouse
Generation A - Douglas Coupland
House of Many Ways - Diana Wynne Jones
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency - Douglas Adams
Corduroy Mansions - Alexander McCall Smith
Understanding Comics - Scott McCloud
I also got about three quarters the way through To the Ends of the Earth - 100 Maps that Changed the World.

Not as much non-fiction as I would normally get through in a week, but I was on my holidays.

I've just read Thank You Jeeves due to having caught a few episodes of the TV series. Totally fab.
I might give the map one a go

How did you take to Dirk Gently? That was the book Richard Dawkins immediately re-read after finishing, and then he contacted DNA who became a lifelong friend.

It's easily the best book he wrote. I wish I'd thought about contacting him after reading it!

I'd read Dirk Gently before, but I enjoyed re-reading it. It's very different from Adams's other work, in that everything is relevant, whereas in the HHGG series, nothing is relevant.
I'm not entirely sure the ending makes sense, though.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
