Gnomon - time to move on Started conversation Jun 5, 2009
Between the long weekend and being off work sick, combined with the best summer weather we've had in a long time, I've spent a lot of time sitting in the garden, taking photos of the birds. The results are at:

Hope the birdwatchers among you like them.

I like them! I have a goldfinch feeder and can watch them gorge themselves for hours.
I've noticed that when goldfinches arrive with fledglings, the adults always monopolise the perches and make the youngsters wait - they fractiously hang around on nearby branches for what can be ages.
Maybe those thistle seeds are too addictive!

Our thistle feeder is hanging below the sunflower-hearts feeder, so the fledglings are either feeding from the sunflower seeds, or gathered on the floor for the dropped thistle seeds
We have also filled one of our peanut feeders with raisins and sultanas. All of the birds love them, that is, until the adult starlings get there! They even push their own fledglings off the feeder.

What kind of camera were you using Gnomon? A regular digital camera or an SLR?
I have the current fortune to be living close to a river, so the birds are a different breed completely - swallows, swifts, egrets, swans, ducks, kingfishers and last week a gannet. What he was doing there I still don't fully understand.

It's a Canon Powershot S3. It's a software-stabilised ultrazoom (10x) with 6 megapixels, but not as elaborate as an SLR.

Thanks, GB. Of course they are. That's just my brain not working properly at the moment.

Lovely photos Gnomon. Glad to see that being off sick has it's compensations with time to sit and stare. Very therapeutic
Hope you are feeling better.
