h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

That was a busy weekend.

I was away from work on a training course for the last three days. It finished on Friday at about 4:30, so I was home reasonably early. It being Hallowe'en, daughter El had organised a party for her friends. I didn't have to do much - just ferry her friends from the tram to our house in my car. The party went well. We got take-away pizzas, and there was lots of fizzy drinks and cakes. El isn't old enough to drink alcohol yet, although a few of her friends are, so we didn't serve up wine and beer. Maybe next year. I got to bed at about 12:30. One of the guests went home, but all the rest of them stayed the night, sleeping on airbeds in one of the girls' bedrooms.

I got up early on Saturday morning as one of the friends had to be driven to the station. We left the house at 6:45 and I was back by about 7:30. Everybody else surfaced about 10:00. I had time to run the dishwasher and sort out the washing, and then have a leisurely breakfast. I then had two major jobs to be done. We'd just got our downstairs toilet done up - a new toilet and sink, and the whole thing tiled. We bought all the stuff months ago, but a very nice guy did the installation and tiling for us last week. There turned out to be a bit missing from the sink tap. He finished the job on Friday, but explained to me what to do with the missing piece when I got it. So I had to drive over to the place where we'd bought the tap and ask them for the missing piece. Then I had to take the old toilet and all the rubble to the dump. Next I had to put away all the Halloween stuff - the skeleton, the bats, the pumpkin garlands, and also to put away all the airbeds, quilts and sleeping bags. Once that was finished, the jobs were done and I could relax. I didn't do much else on Saturday. We watched an episode of Life on Mars on DVD, then I went to bed early at about 12:00.

On Sunday, I had the job of tidying up the new downstairs toilet - there was a rough bit on the wall where there used to be a central heating timer - we'd removed it but the holes were still there, and the holes from three previous timers. The wallpaper had to be stripped off this section, the holes filled and the whole thing re-wallpapered, before painting it to make it complete. I got the old wallpaper off the section of the wall and got the holes filled - I'll finish it off during the week. Then we drove to Dun Laoghaire (about 5 miles) and went for a walk along the pier - this is a favourite walk for thousands of southsiders every Sunday. After the walk we had coffee, then returned home. Next I went in search of coal while Mrs G cooked up a light meal. Then we all watched another episode of Life on Mars. We're determined to see them all before someone tells us what happens in the end.

Wow, that sounds really busy.

Yes it was a good weekend. I'm uploading some of the Halloween pictures to Flickr as I speak, although since they are pictures of children, only those of you who are marked as my friends on Flickr will be able to see them.

I've just signed out - I told lil how she can see a few of my photos on there. I'll have a look at yours tomorrow.

Somewhere in there, I wrote an article for The Post as well!

If you've read it, you'll know that last weekend was busy too.

Next weekend, all I have planned is a 2-hour recorder class on Friday evening, and my brother coming to visit with his family. Should be fairly relaxing.
