2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side... Posted Sep 14, 2006
Ooo CAn I ask that anyone who'd intending on going signs up in the actual sign up thread?: otherwise you'l not enter on the list lest I remember will try to update list over teh weekend but it'd be easier if anyone who's not done so actually dropped a note in teh 'sighn up thread' on the meet page with their intentions I can give out my mobile number to if anyone wants it nearer the time as a point of contact; I imagine I'll be heading straight to teh pub for the evening shin dig in order to ensure that its ready to cope with the.... onslaught we've still not booked the evening venue yet as we're a little low on numbers but we'll have somewhere come the time

Any chance you could update the official list to include those people who said they'd come?

Christiane, I'm afraid it won't be possible for us to come to visit you on the Sunday after the h2g2 meet. We're flying back from Heathrow in the afternoon, so we really won't have a lot of time that day. Sorry about this.

The list shoudl be updated as of a week or so ago now Numbers are still quite low, so it looks as if we may make the evening event pub the Princess Louise in High Holborn (which is really easy to get to as its only a few yards from the tube exit if memory serves me correct ) But they'l be a more offical-esk announcement regarding venu etc., nearer the time, unforutantley I'm off for mos tof this week but will get finalised plans errr finalised shortly after that so everyone knows in advance of the more specific aspects of the day

If I can make it, which is still a big if, I'm going to need somewhere to stay - anyone recommend a cheap hotel/B&B near the pub?

That's a really kind offer, and would be very helpful - I'll post on your PS, though to avoid cluttering everyone's conversation lists!
The reason I should still be 'possible', though, is because one of the girls in reception has rather inconsiderately decided to have a birthday on the day of the Meet - right on the first Saturday of half-term, too, not an ideal time for a hotelier to be away. So I might need to work If I can at least get the Sunday off, though, I'll be ok - I can work the early shift on the Saturday and still be there for 6ish, but that wouldn't be ideal. It's all a bit complicated at the moment!

At the moment numbers attending are still too low for us to really be able to consider bothering a pub to open special for us; the normal trick is we get a pub right in the middle of the 'city' who don't normally open on a Saturday (cause no one lives in the city they only work there), and persuede tehm on threat of badgers to open for us; we need a decent high nubmer to do this we were pushing it at the last meet and they asked for a deposit which in the end we didn't get back So at the current* time with numbers signed up as they are we're probably for the evenign at least just going to take over a nice pub (well a few of us like it) in High Holborn called the princess louise; there should bea a unedited guide entry on it somewhere but thats not for certain yet; MMF is organising the afternoon activity (for those who won't be in the pub solidily all day), I'm not sure at the moment what they've decided on for the main afternoon event; contenders were varied like the tate modern, the wetlands centre, Q gardens I think; there should be conversations aoubt it on the main meet mpage or just go ask MMF as he's orgniasing that bit as he knows of such places

I'm not really here Posted Oct 3, 2006
I'm not keen on the Louise - the layout isn't very good for meets I don't think. What about the Weatherspoons on Kingsway? It'll be open, it's cheap, does reasonable food, and is enormous in case we get loads of surprise visitors?

Yes, sorry, I'd forgetten the name, the Shakespeare's Head, yes that's the one! It's just as close to the tube. I've only been in the Louise for munches, but it all seemed a bit sort of 'closed in' for a big group. If you're sitting it's hard to see the rest of the room - or maybe that was just the seat I was in. It was back in May.

I pressume the Princess is exactly the same, a lot of it is listed cause its so old I remember the shakespears head vaguely.... met up there a few quite a few meets ago with some others before going to the Pendrils oak I think the ohters (MMF and Roymondo mainly now I think of it) suggested the Princess Louise as we've had a few mini meets in their on a saturday and it tends to be quite quiet, as its useually full during th eweek of people who work nearby, can't remember what the shakespears head was like for crowdedness or otherwise tis a good suggestion though, I'm trying to remember what beers they had maybve I need to go do a recon mission

Can we have the discussion of what pub to go to over at the meet page, please, rather than in my journal?
