Hi HonvL

Well done for tackling a truly noble subject!

I see this entry currently stands as your user page as well as an entry page, so I don't know anything about you other than your opinions on bookends: as a Userpage entry this sets out something that you feel strongly about - fine. If you wanted it to go forward to the edited guide, and thus serve another purpose, you would have to consider changing the format and structure to one most appropriate for that use: for instance most edited guide entries are in the 3rd person, and don't use the word 'I'.
...but I'm not certain if that is indeed what you want to coonsider. If it is, post something here and we'll see what we can do to help!

Ok, my essay on bookends is back up. If it is anywhere near qualifying for the Edited Guide, I guess I can edit it and turn it into a 3rd-person perspective. This is about bookends and books. Enjoy!

Hi HonvL,

Sorry this thread has languished for so long - sometimes we get a bit behind! I hope you're still around to get this feedback.

As Cloviscat says, the first person viewpoint will have to go before we can really assess it.

In terms of being "the sort of thing that gets in the Guide", I think that depends very much on the mood of the Editors on the day. It's entertaining, but it's pretty lightweight in terms of usable information. The basic point that bookends enhance the action of books is a nice piece of lateral thinking - but it's really the only idea, which makes the article a bit thin for its length. I'd either cut it back, or add more meat.

Why is it that bookends only work temporarily, until you've taken out a finite number of books, and then they too are dominoed?
Which are better, the bookends which rely on their own weight or the ones which have little feet that tuck under the end book and use its weight to help them?

Anyway, there is a big problem with this particular thread - the entry mentioned at the beginning is no longer the active one, which makes reference to it very confusing. For that reason, I'm going to recommend this thread be "sin-binned" (which isn't as shameful as it sounds smiley - smiley), but when you've got a new version of your entry we'd love to see you post it back here.

Thanks for contributing,

GVI

This entry now appears to be pending moderation. Also, the author appears to be AWOL. These things happen. smiley - sadface

I suggest that this thread would best moved to the workshop until the author returns or the moderators unmoderate it, when we can look at it again.

Oh well.
(S)He wasn't the most talkative researcher ever, and I think our slow response lost us one.
It happens.
