Hello Crazyhorse.
Was this a reply to a previous thread? I am a bit confused and haven't quite figured out how h2g2 works.
Indeed my state is moose and bear country. There has to be something interesting about it to make us forget the awful winters (sorry, a bit grumpy about the weather at the moment).
Just last summer I was in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, fishing for trout, and a moose cow and her calf swam not more than 10 feet from our fishing boat to get to the island we were fishing next to. I expect that is one encounter I will never forget.
As to black bears, I could write a book on the many memories I have of them.

I grew up in the "Arrowhead region" which is about where you were. Did you spend any time in the Boundary Waters?
