It's mine. Naturally, I like it. It's more or less accurate, occasionally useful and a reasonably good read. It's honest, it's researched well, and it's where I live. It's a must-read if you're planning to come visit, or if you already live here and want something to argue over while it's raining.

Pretty good Entry Maybe put in a couple of good pubs, a couple of good restraunts, that sort of thing There used to be an excellent restaurant just on one side of the bridge (the opposite side to the side that Shell, or the main street, is on) - Andy's Restaurant - or something like that. Had two big blackboards, only ten or so tables. Did a really good, cheap, well made selection. An truely suberb cherry crumble, truely suberb. Brought back many memories.....

Thanks for that. The restaurant you remember so well is called Alan's so you were pretty close. I can't recommend it myself since I can't afford to eat in restaurants anyway, but I have heard that it has a good reputation amongst those who can.
Perhaps the best thing to do for now, at least, is invite visitors to the Guide entry to recommend places they have enjoyed, in this conversation. Then at some point I can include a "visitor recommendations" list in the entry itself. That probably makes more sense than me simply listing the locations of places that I haven't been to myself. Thanks for prompting that idea!

Hi Follenglot,
I hope you're still around to read this!
This is one of the best entries I've read which describe a town that seems on the surface to be fairly ordinary. I can't explain how come you've had to wait so long to get it noticed, either - it's really very good.
The first paragraph (about never being finished) could apply to any entry. This is already thorough and well-written, so I wouldn't recommend a trip to the Writing Workshop. Just lose that para.
The pictures won't make the Edited Guide, but very nice they are too.
You could probably do without the "Miscellanea" section. It doesn't enhance the information much, and it seems a bit as though you were worried that without it, the piece wasn't "funny" enough. Trust me, it's good enough without tacked-on humour.
I really think this should go forward soon. Sadly I don't get a pick now until mid-January - if another Scout needs an entry first, just grab it!
Please come back and write more - about anything that interests you - because you do all the right things: you write well, and you've shown you're willing to research information and links. If our inefficient Scouting system (which was, in our defence, only just starting out when you posted this) means we lose a good researcher, we'll feel really guilty!

hey people..
I totally agree with GVI, this is a great article...and I would encourage you to write more.
The only things I would say is that I think you should take out Misellanea section (as said before), although it does have it's charm, I don't think you need it, the things to do while you're here bit I quite liked, you could keep that perhaps? and then the v. first paragraph, but I think that goes without saying.
GVI might not agree though eh? I'm new to this so feel free to set me right.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. Yes, I have been away! It seemed as if nothing was happening here at all and in the end I just forgot all about it. Just by chance I came across the bookmark today and perhaps it's as well that I did. I see that the page has been recommended now, and that's pleasing. My thanks for the good review. I am curious to know why pictures will not make the Edited Guide, though: they are my copyright images, what's the problem?
On the subject of the "miscellanea", I have had another look at it and still think it belongs where it is. It was not an attempt to make the page funnier; although cynical there's a good deal of fact in it. The issues of racism, poverty and the decline of industry, the high crime rate, the bad weather and the unavoidable fact that an awful lot of people describe the town as boring and in serious decline are subjects that I could easily have addressed seriously; I chose to do it this way instead, partly to lighten the mood but also to avoid running the page to three times the length and becoming boring myself. However, I am happy to remove the text if the editors prefer, and at a later time I may well come back to some of the issues hinted at.
Thanks again!
