Hi Egon,

I'm a BB fan, so I was glad to see an entry on it. Perhaps you should make the title "Big Brother UK", though, because there is a currently-airing American version of the show and we want to avoid confusion.

I think your first section about the history and rules of the show is good.

References to the first series of BB (and let's face it, this won't be the last!) might date very quickly. I predict that in a year's time, only a handful of people will be able to name a contestant apart from Nasty Nick, and possibly the eventual winner - or that girl with the fake boobs if she ever lets "Testosterone Overload" Builderboy make the beast with two backs with her.

The final part is a very funny thing to read, I really enjoyed it, but there are two reasons why it can't be included in an Edited guide entry:
1. It's pure fiction.
2. You didn't write it, it originated from another site.

Also, by its sheer length, it unbalances the article. You really would be better off without it.

I'd suggest that you keep this original version for everyone's amusement, and put together a "release" version based on history and fact. It would be a good entry.

name change to point out that this is a TV series, and not, for example, an article about 1984? smiley - smiley

I liked it. I think the fictional account of Big Brother needs to be a little shorter, it gets dull after about day 10.

Hi Egon,

Are you still active and interested in this entry?

I ask because, with the summer of Big Brotherly love come and gone, we now have a better perspective on your article, and the lasting legacy of the show.

An entry on the phenomenon and what it meant is still, to my mind, valid - after all, we have entries in the Guide about people who died hundreds of years ago. But if you want it to go further, the fiction will have to go, and references to the 2000 series will have to be given context and fully explained, for the sake of generations yet to come.

For that reason, and because you haven't come back on it in several weeks, I'm going to recommend this be moved to the Writing Workshop.

The WW is a place where entries which need a bit of work - or, for instance, contributions from researchers in other countries (we could have a global BB article) - can be discussed and polished without drawing attention from those which are ready, or very nearly ready, to go in the Guide.
Thanks

I'm confused too!
For the moment, I will send my list to the eGroup, in line with recent practice. The comment was to pre-empt the "what does your automated message mean?" question from the researcher - but a seconding would always be appreciated...

Well I agree with you that this should be moved to the WW - is that good enough? smiley - erm

Conversation Moved

h2g2 auto-messages

Editorial Note: This Conversation has been moved to the new 'Flea Market' Forum.

This is where we move any Peer Review, Writing Workshop or Alternative Writing Workshop Conversations where the original author has *not* posted to h2g2 for three months. This prevents the active Review Forums from clogging up with dormant entries, but in the Flea Market they can be picked up by others and polished off.
