Some of you may be aware I've devised a new (?) approach to writing music.

I'm starting to make this public now as I want to know how others get on with the method. If this works for other people too then I will take further steps.

I don't know if it will sink or swim, but I'd appreciate it if people give it a go.

I did warn you all those weeks/months ago that there was a very good chance it wasn't genuinely new. However, as I also said then, that doesn't stop you from using it yourself, writing about it and even selling self-help type books - though you would need more material than an h2g2 article for that.

Indeed. I was discussing this with a patent agent the other day and told him there wasn't much 'bulk' beyond the basic concept. He told me he'd just read an inch thick dieting book that could easily be summarised in two pages.

If you check out the books in the shops along the lines of "How To Write Songs......" you usually find there's only about three chapters about the creative process and the rest is 'padding' about demo's, approaching companies, legal stuff etc.

Although my method isn't new, there are a considerable number of people who it will be new to. There is a big need for an "A to Z of songwriting techniques". There must be many techniques out there that aren't common knowledge and would be a great help to beginners or even established writers.
