Flea Market: A418961 Public buses in Copenhagen, Denmark

This is a visitors' guide on how to use public buses in Copenhagen, Denmark, seen from the point of view of a person who knows the subject like few others.

It tries to explain why it is actually a good thing that the bus you're in doesn't stop at the stop where you want to get off.

Generally, it puts forward the thesis that public buses in Copenhagen might just be Vogan spaceships, and offers a number of arguments.

What might be the most scary bit: It is all based on facts, facts, facts.

The article was entertaining, but I think it has a bit of ways to go before becoming Approved material.

Although the main idea seems to be trying to prove that Copenhagen buses are like Vogon spaceships, it might be more effective if the main idea was to inform the general populace about the bus system, and let readers come to the conclusion of bus-Vogon similarities with less nudging. Perhaps cutting the mention of Vogon spaceships down to only once or twice, instead of four times (counting the poetry) would help.

Also, what might increase the article's chances of getting approved is if it read more like an encyclopedia entry and less like a conversation. Removal of the "you" prounoun would help greatly in that area.

Finally, one part confused me: "If you want to bring a bicycle or a baby carriage, use the middle door to get the entity in, and then go up front - it is allowed to say "Sorry" and "Please" a lot, doing that..."

When the article says, "...it is allowed to say 'Sorry' and 'Please'..." what exactly does "it" refer to? Having the bicycle say "sorry" doesn't make much sense. Do you mean to say, "YOU are allowed to say 'Sorry'..."?

Overall, I found the entry to be informative and well-written. Thanks to you, I'll know what to watch out for when riding Copenhagen buses. A bit more work and it'll slide right through the editing process.

Sorry for the late reply - just got back from Bulgaria. There the buses are blue, btw.

These are very good points - let me polish it a bit the coming week and see what comes out.

Thanks!

Are you going to polish this entry, HT - it's really rather good, barring the Vogon spaceship references, which really ought to be vaped.

Who runs the buses, btw - danish govt?

you may want to look at http://www.h2g2.com/F48874?thread=68149 - in particular the first entry - if you want to do a collaborative entry on Copenhagen as a whole - a lot of people have written about it, but there's nothing in the edited guide yet.

I like the analogy to Vogon (pls note: Vog*o*n) spaceships. Something has always puzzled me with the Copenhagen buses and now I know why...

I don't think that all the various entries on Copenhagen should be combined - I think the resulting entry would be far to big and losing focus all together. But linking them to each other - certainly!

I do agree that it seems to need some more - and the suggestion to make it into something more useful for visitors appeal to me (anything that attracts tourists to our wonderful Copenhagen usually does!).

A short list of ideas:

Identifying bus stops (the signs)
How to interpret the sign at the busstop, maybe
Price levels
Tourist day-card schemes
Links to "Rejseplanen" ("The travel planner, which is a fabulously well done website when you want to find out how to come from A to B via C in Cph - it *should not* bedeemed too commercial!)

.. there's bound to be more. I'd love to give a hand if we can work out how to arrange that...

And, it's just cool that your username it HT smiley - laughsmiley - ok

*to anyone not knowing: The overall bus-organisation is called.... HT.*

Is this entry still under work by somebody?

Otherwise I'll ask for some Scout to second a move to the Writing Workshop.

Editorial Note: This Conversation has been moved to the new 'Flea Market' Forum.

This is where we move any Peer Review, Writing Workshop or Alternative Writing Workshop Conversations where the original author has *not* posted to h2g2 for three months. This prevents the active Review Forums from clogging up with dormant entries, but in the Flea Market they can be picked up by others and polished off.
