Which is correct to say. 'The yolk of the egg are white' or, 'The yolk of the egg is white'?

'The yolk of the egg is white' is correct.

Neither is correct.
The yolk of an egg is yellow!

Sometmes you get 2 yolks. Then the yolks are yellow. (Well, not exactly yellow really but more of a pale orange I'd have thought. The yolk of an egg is Greebo)

Have you ever found a yolk that looks scarily like an almost formed chicken?

I was always thinking German is a terribly difficult language. But now, I think, English is, too. At least, there are so many words unfamiliar to me .

However, in my dictionary I found a second meaning for yolk, do you know which?

I wasn't aware of another definition of "yolk" myself - until I looked, and Lo! - there it was: is "the greasy substance found in unprocessed sheep's wool." Strange, but true.

(since I can never get online fast enough to answer these questions, I have to satisfy my intellect through researching everyone else's replies )
