You accidentally drop a couple of pennies into a murky river. You see one splash into the water, and you see the Queens's head. What is the probability of the second coin having the Queen's head on it?

depends whether it is a regular pennie or a double sided tails one. if it is a regular penny, then the probabiity is 100%, but if it i a double sided tails, then the probability is 0%.

Or it might be an American 'penny' (ie one cent) in which case there will be no queens head at all - 0%

If the river is murky, and after you drop the first coin, you see the Queen's head, does that mean the Queen's there as well?
In which case, I wouldn't be buggering about with coins...

Unless they're pre-1953 pennies, in which case it'd be 0%, they'd have the king's head on them.

My 50% is based on the fact that I have numerous Euro pennies sitting around from FC's surjourn in Berlin so it depends what I pick up to throw away.

And my 0% is based on the fact that I'd be sitting by a murky river with two antique coins and Queen Elizabeth II. Obviously.

The question was: is the Queen's head on the coin? Not whether you can see it or whether it is facing upwards.
So I say about 90% - or more, depending upon how many pre-1953 pennies are in circulation. Pre-decimalisation pennies that is. It is not specified whether they are 1d pennies or 1p pennies, so there you are - take your pick - they could be either.
The Americans call their cents pennies, too, so if it's one of them, there is not much chance of any Queen's head being on it. Unless it's pre-1776
