From the fact that there is an odd number of spokes, I would say that this is a very old-fashioned bike, possibly a velocipede.

velocipede? I thought that was some sort of vicious, man-eating dinosaur - as seen in certain films - but with hundreds of legs

A velocipede is a strange pre-historic beast... as sort of cross between a velociraptor and a millipede...
