It depends what you use to make the dots (umlauts/diareses, if you prefer) in the first place. I use the extended-ASCII character set, where:
ä= alt-0228
ü= alt-0252
etc etc etc. In that set, ë is alt-0235.
Yeah. Someone is interested in my name. I'm excited.
It's the most obscure Tolkien reference that I know of, by the way. Kudos to anyone who can identify it
