A Conversation for Witches

weighing the Bible

Mr. Teapot

So, if the witch is being pulled down by the Spirit of the Devil, then what about the Bible? I think that if the Bible weighed more,, _it_ was obviously under Satan's power and should be burned. And what sort of Bible were they using, anyway? I mean, if you get a really big bible, almost anyone could survive, but what if ou had the little cheap oneswith only the Ne Testament and book of Psalms? Then you'll be burning people left and right.

Witches were supposed to be able to fly anway, right? So, shouldn't it be something like the other way around?

You're looking for LOGIC?

In religion?

bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

That's the glory of "faith": it can mean whatever you want it to mean, nevermind those pesky facts...

There, there Tamara.

Here, have some nice tea. I find sitting in a rocker with some tea really helps. Milk? Sugar or honey?

Of course, primal scream therapy also works...

And see my post above, re logic vs. religion. My feeling is, dont expect too much from either. You can pretty much count on gravity, but after that you're on your own.

More tea?

Here's a fresh pot of tea. And biscuits. And some nice cucumber sandwiches if you like.

Now, she said
*pouring a nice cuppa for herself, brushing crumbs off, and curling her tail carefully around the dragon-size rocking chair.*.

Yes, I am wiccan, and have found if you are very careful about how you present yourself to others you can explain, rather than inflame them. This is not always easy to do. I, too, have the urge to scream at them, but, if controlled, it passes. Remember to listen as much as you talk.

And turn out your toes when you speak.
[that last part was a suggestion from the Red Queen to Alice in Wonderland]

The Guide, on the whole, is a very tolerant group. There are many, many kinds of folks about. And they usually are willing to listen and respond thoughtfully to different points of view. A sense of humor also helps--the larger the better.

The real-time world is another matter, however. Although the same strategies work pretty well out there, there are lots more situations that can make you CRAZY!

Oops.

*deep breath, sip of tea*

The human mind has the ability to hold several completely opposite ideas at the same time, and not notice that there is a conflict. Many religions are particularly good at practicing that skill. Perhaps that is what is so appealing about Douglas Adams, and the Guide. The ridiculous side of all things can be explored freely, irreverantly, without anyone getting angry or upset. Helps you keep a perspective.
Very comfortable here.

*rocking gently, sipping*

I might just nap
*zzzz*
briefly
*snurf*
Wake me if I doze off

BLINK, BLINK
*rubbing eyes*

yes, thank you, those short naps are very restful.

As far as wicca and mainstream religion is concerned, wicca doesnt care, but the other religions usually have a big problem with it.

Especially those christian folks, with the 'one god' thing, their hysteria about 'witchcraft' and all.

Wicca is more a way of being than a set of beliefs. It is especially hard to get wiccans/pagans to agree on a 'set' of stuff that they all believe. There are some basic characteristics that are fairly common to all, but with great variations.

I would never encourage anyone to do anything that conflicted with their basic belief system.

And wicca is NOT what you see in those currently popular movies and TV shows. It isn't a bunch of spells that you can work like opening a cookbook. It is more learning to attune yourself to the powers that be, rather than making them do what YOU want.

I am always amazed by those movies where someone stumbles on a 'book of shadows' and by reading a spell is instantly able to control the weather, gain wealth and beauty, and transmute straw into gold. I use an umbrella, worked hard for my money, and still can't do that straw into gold trick. It just doesnt work like in the movies.

The things I do in wicca affects me from the inside, not things on the outside. A "love potion/spell" is not to use on someone else to make them love you, it is more effective to use on yourself to focus on making yourself more loveable.

Oh, and screaming is pretty much optional in most [but not all] religions, as well as in daily living. Usually has a real negative effect on those nearby. I only recommend it as a solitary tension-release strategy.

Well, I dont know about getting tarot cards, cause you really should pick out your own. And I dont think the Guide is really set up to transmit currency anyway.

But, I do have a suggestion that might help. There is a search engine called AVATAR SEARCH http://www.avatarsearch.com/ It is a search that specializes in paganism, shammanism, wicca, and other occult subjects.

You can use this link to find out about what different symbols might mean, and also where to get tarot cards.

Good luck in your search.

*insinuates himself into the conversation*Thanks for that URL. I've been looking for something like that for a long time now. Searching out that on the web can be a real pain sometimes.
