Today is the day that I started out with this journal. It has been a pretty unremarkable day; I found out how much money I haven't got in the bank by virtue of the internet banking facility I've just set up on my PC, my colleague at work bought a guitar effects "Pod" module at lunchtime, my wife discovered email (she sent me one instructing me to by milk and a newspaper on my way home from work). But the sad news of the day is that the police have found the body of a young girl believed to be Sarah Payne, who went missing a number of days ago. Maybe its because I've got kids (girls) of my own, but I felt such profound sadness at this news that I feel hollow inside. I do not feel well disposed towards the human race tonight. That this can happen is obscene. Blame, retribution, all pointless...it has already happened. Maybe tomorrow will be a better day...

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
