Um, why does it seem like these articles aren't going anywhere? How long do 'finishing touches' take to add?

That's a good question.
Right now, h2g2 is making a transition from an editing process where you never see upcoming entries before they are posted to one where they are listed out in advance on this page. The challenge right now is to finish up with the entries that were submitted to the old editing system. After that is done, the entries from this page will begin to be posted.
There are 417 entries left in the old editing system. Many of them will be rejected for inclusion in the edited guide, and the rest will appear on the main page. Once the editors have finished sorting that out, they will begin work on the entries listed here. Predictions for when that will occur range from a few weeks from now to sometime in November.
The point is that the editors are dealing with other things besides these entries right now. The system has been changed to speed up the editing process, but there will be a delay until everything gets sorted out. Sorry.
