Hi, sylas - nice to see a newbie who's so enthusiastic. Welcome to h2g2!
Unfortunately, most of the volunteer schemes require that you're at least somewhat familiar with the site and how it works. Since you're interested in the Scouts, a good place to start would be to read the Writing-Guidelines. Then you can go to PeerReview and comment on the Entries there, which would be part of your job as a Scout. That way, you can get in a bit of practice and see how you like it.

Hi Sylas,
I suggest you write an entry of your own and put it through the Peer Review process (this used to be a mandatory requirement for Scouts- maybe it still is?). You will then be in a far better position to advise others how to do the same.
Look forward to seeing your comments in Peer Review.
