I see from your personal space that you're new around here - welcome!
One thing I always suggest to new members who are interested in scout positions here on h2g2 is that they spend some time in PeerReview - seeing how it all works, what the scouts do there, and leaving some helpful feedback for the authors.
There are several benefits to this -- you get a better idea of what scouting is like, and whether it's a good fit for you. We get to see that you're serious about wanting to be a scout. And the authors in Peer Review get the benefit of your helpful comments. It's a win-win-win!
