Well, the first thing to do would be to hang around <./>Peer Review</.> for a while, get a feel for how things work, then start making some comments of your own on other peoples' entries so that the Editors can see your Scouting credentials. Boning up on the Writing-Guidelines, Writing-Beginners, <./>HouseRules</.> and <./>SubEditors-Style</.> would be worthwhile too.

Thanks for the input. Will do. Off to Peer Review and getting familiar with the guidelines.

Is it better to scan through other entries, as well,or stick to P.R.?

I'd stick with PR since that's mostly what Scouts deal with. Unedited entries don't have to jump through the same hoops as those written in the hope of being edited and appearing in the Edited Guide.

It would be well worth your while checking the Front Page every day too, to see the entries that are getting picked, and maybe browse the category pages too, starting at C889 and working your way down to entries that look interesting. Or you could use the Infinite Improbability Drive: <./>RandomEditedEntry</.> (if you click 'refresh' or 'reload' each time, you'll get a new random entry - saves having to keeping coming back to that link).

Bear in mind though, that some of the very oldest entries in the Edited Guide aren't up to the standard of today's EG, and are in the process of being updated.

Some excellent advice from BH there. Great to see that you're taking an interest in helping us out, MacDougal - it's always good to know that there are eager people out there!

However, we're not actively recruiting any more Scouts at this precise moment in time. We will nevertheless note your interest when we come to reopen recruitment - especially if you're able to spend some time in Peer Review (as BH suggested), as that's perhaps the best way to show that you're the kind of person who'd be good at spotting the right kind of entry to recommend to us!

Many thanks once again, and hopefully we'll be in touch when we reopen recruitment for this scheme sometime in the future!

Paully
