Guess what's back
back again
The geek code's back
tell a friend

dum de dum
doo de doo

Does anyone really read these intros anyway?

Anywhich, I took this out of PR because someone made the good point that it wasn't terribly accessible to non-geeks. Hopefully that's improved somewhat. I've also made other changes.

Looks great. smiley - ok
My favourite example of geekiness is Douglas Adams in 'Last Chance To See' describing who he'll gladly spend a whole day writing a program that will do in an instant a 10 second job. The actual example, one hours job to create a program that, with the height as input, will estimate in a moment the volum of the pile of rotting plant debris kicked together by a megapode bird to hatch its egg. Adams didn't think he'd ever need to calculate such again, and sadly he was right.
*Moment of silence*
Me, I prefer less useful programs, like my 1/1000 of a day clock and day counter.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

I still want to know why "I learned everything there is to know about life from the "Hitchhiker's Trilogy" hasn't been used as an example. I know we're not a fan site, but surely it's got a place in this entry smiley - erm

Otherwise, smiley - ok

I can say that I've learned something today. Geek code huh? Blimey. I never realised this existed.

How common is it still? Where is it used? Personal websites? IRC? This entry only seems to describe *what* Geek Code is and little more. Now I'm craving to know more about it and I'm left in the lurch slightly (I know I could go google or follow the links but it should be in this entry IMO).

"What interests sie has" in the first paragraph should be changed to the Standard English "what interests they have".

smiley - cheers

Gosho - because the originator of this entry (it's a Flea Market scavenged one) didn't use it as an example, and I have a rough policy of not changing stuff without a good reason. We're not a fan site, like you say, and I don't think the entry needs it.

Ste - I'd prefer to be accurate and slangy than inaccurate but Standard. It'll be changed by a sub-ed, no doubt. Pretend I've got a language impediment such that I have to write this way (you wouldn't be that far off the truth).
I see what you mean about not saying where it's used very much. I'll try and expend the relevant section.

Added a para on current usage. Removed direct name-check of Gosho on GTB's advice.

Nice work... geek code is great.
It's a bit old but those who are online a little bit more longer still remind it very well!

h2g2 auto-messages

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
