Nice entry.
But to my UK-limited brain - what is a strip mall?

It's a series of shops that's all in a line, unlike a normal mall that's all in one building. The shops are usually connected and have the same parking lot. Sometimes euphemistically known as a 'shopping centre', a strip mall is different from a normal series of shops in that it's often situated some distance from other shops, i.e. not in a town centre where you'd expect to find them. Sometimes strip malls have a reputation for being somewhat grungy, but in places (like California) where there are a lot of them you can find some nice ones. A lot of the time there will be one big chain store (here it might be Wal-Mart or Target or a supermarket like Vons) and some smaller stores on either side.
