Hi, Gareth!
You may think this is accurate, but it certainly doesn't follow the Writing-Guidelines It's not well-balanced, and it doesn't look well-researched. If you can't find anything good to say about Carrickfergus, then you'd be better off removing this entry from Peer Review and writing about something you actually like. There's a steady trickle of 'My Rotten Boring Hometown' entries from younger researchers, and their chances of becoming Edited Entries are fairly low, unless the authors are will to pull them apart, remake them, and admit that their hometown has some good points.

I also don't think it is accurate. There is pleanty in Carrick to merit it. The castle, the marina, also the bowling clubs is one of the best in Ireland.

DD, that answer is a dead giveaway that you're over 25! The "My Rotten Boring Hometown" mindset seems to wear off by then.....

"I wish I wa-as...." Obviously at least one person liked the place
I agree with Azara here. The "boring rotten dump of a place" phenomenon is universal - everybody at some time of their life thinks their home town is the biggest dump in the world, when in reality the place is no different to most other small towns. I was there a few years ago, and I could see a lot to recommend the place. The castle, for one thing, has a lot of history, which could easily be discussed here in this guide. Belfast Lough is quite impressive and you are just down the road (well, relatively speaking) from the Glens, one of the most beautiful and picturesque places on the whole island.
If you were to change it, I might still leave in a reference to some of the local slang.

Belfast Lough looks far better from the other side. But then I'm biased and they have an even better bolwing team, must of whom are actually under 30. Before people make too much comment about my age around here.

Look at my Dublin entry to see how you can talk about the dirt, the tumbledown houses, the traffic chaos, and yet still bring out the good points as well.

I see nothing has changed so did a little research myself.
The name means Rock of Fergus and is supposed to refer to the ship wreck of King Fergus off the coast in c. 320 AD.
The castle is one of the Norman defences built after the Norman Invasion of Ulster by John de Courci to defend Henry II interests to the west.
It was developed by Chichester at the same time as he wa developing Belfast to make it into the town that it is now.
There is bound to be more but you can look that up
