Actually, it's a simple thing. You see...
we're stupid.
Really tho. I think the reason goes back to the Revolutionary War. Due to the tensions between Brits and Americans, the Americans decided no to do anything like the Brits, up to and including driving on the opposite side of the road. Just a theory.
