h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

You know, there are not enough free sound samples on the net, and what there are you can't guarantee are free from copyright - you never know where they've come from. It's very annoying. So I've decided to make my own and put them on mp3.com. I've never actually seen anybody do such a thing there yet. I'm sure lots of people will start doing it now.

MP3's have been firewalled at my office. I can't play them, which is sad. With all the legal activity surrounding Napster lately I think businesses are a bit wary.

So somebody does read these after all!

That's a shame about the work thing. Maybe they're just wary of people doing no work and downloading mp3's all day?

Doesn't mp3.com work at all then? The streaming files stream as .m3u files, so maybe you can at least have listen?

I would download MP3s all day. I WANT to download MP3's all day!! In fact, I demand to download MP3s all day!!

Actually, I don't know. I'm wondering if I could listen to the songs without downloading the Napster software. Do you think?

It depends on how the firewall is set up. It may be setup to only block Napster, in which case you'll have no problem with my page, as mp3.com has got nothing to do with Napster.

Or, it maybe setup to stop any files that are *.mp3 in which the streaming will work (so you can play it but not keep it).

Or, it maybe setup to stop Napster, *.mp3, *.m3u, *.ra in which case nothing at all will work!

Give it a go anyway and tell me what happens.
