Almighty Rob - mourning the old h2g2 Started conversation Jul 13, 2000
Well, here goes. My first journal entry. A new chapter in my life begins, immortalised in the public domain. The thought both frightens and excites me: I am anxious about what people might think of my somewhat uninteresting life. I guess I'll have to wait and see.
Perhaps I'll begin by telling you why I'm here. No, not in some philosophical, world-stopping, "42" kind of sense, but why I have decided to use h2g2 to share my thoughts with the world.
Actually, I stumbled onto it. While using the computer at university, I noticed that the h2g2 address was enshrined in the history list of almost every computer. Intrigued, I took action to investigate. Clearly there was something interesting going on here, and not wanting to miss out on a new craze (I missed out on Harry Potter) I blundered onwards.
And here I am. I was shocked to find the site was the Earth Edition of one of the funniest books around. Why had I not been informed of this sooner? Surely there can be no more helpful resource around? I couldn't believe it, so naturally I forced myself to join.
I have long been a fan of the concept of message boards. But usually they are filled with rubbish posted by people with no comprehension of the English language. The Guide is a lot more organised, and I think the system of approval is a great innovation.
I'll have to leave this entry here, but don't worry - in the next few days I will endeavour to post something a little more interesting. Maybe a few details about my personal life. No, wait... I said interesting.... God knows what I'll do!
