h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Could you correct a mistake in this entry? In "It survived as a heath, one of the last places in the UK where the Large Blue butterfly1 (Maculinea arion) could be found, right through to 1945..." could you change 'Large Blue' to 'Silver-studded Blue' & (Maculinea arion) to (Plebejus argus)?

As far as we know the Large Blue never was on Prees Heath. Butterfly Conservation bought their bit of the heath to protect the colony of Silver-studded Blues there. (And they're doing very well! The Big Count on one day in the height of their season last year recorded 2954 on the heath.)

I was lucky enough to have some Holly Blue butterflies visit my garden last year, although it was a sparse year for me overall. One of the things I dislike about winter is the dearth of butterflies

Got to say h2g2 seems like an oasis of sanity in today's internet. Just hope it hangs on in, and hangs on in until it comes into its own.

There doesn't seem to be an entry on Silver-studded Blues, I'll have a go at writing one. We're off to the heath today for a few odd jobs, no butterflies flying - and I miss them like you GB, but there's Peacocks & Small Torts hibernating on the control tower ceilings, & there must be thousands of SSB eggs in the heather & Purple Hairstreak eggs on the oaks.

You're right, there isn't an entry on Silver-studded Blues, just the Blues A87772873

I hope you enjoyed your time on the heath I have lots of heather in my front garden - I live in hope of butterfly eggs!
